Police in Noida say a 25-year-old man from Manesar died after jumping from a high-rise in Sector 94, hours after checking into an Airbnb. Officers said their preliminary inquiry pointed to financial distress following a loan, while messages and a video sent to his father indicated he was considering ending his life.

A 25-year-old man from Haryana’s Manesar died after falling from a high-rise building in Noida’s Sector 94 on Saturday, according to police, who said their preliminary inquiry pointed to financial distress. The man, identified as Sambhav Jain, had checked into an Airbnb at the Supernova Society on Friday and was due to leave on Saturday. Police said he jumped at about 11.30 a.m.

Noida ACP Praveen Kumar Singh said Jain had taken a loan and was under financial pressure. The officer said Jain remained in contact with his father until shortly before his death and sent WhatsApp messages saying he did not want to live. Police also said he sent a video message describing his distress.

During their preliminary inquiry, officers found that he had allegedly informed his father that he intended to end his life and had said he was responsible for the decision. According to police, Jain was seen on the outer side of a balcony railing. Workers carrying out air-conditioner repairs in a nearby flat tried to intervene and persuade him to return to safety.

The workers said he told one of them that he was depressed. Despite their efforts, he fell from the building. A video from before the incident showed him standing on the outer ledge while people on the ground watched and alerted security personnel.

Police took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem examination. His family later claimed the body. Officers said they were continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the death and gathering information from his relatives.
