Telangana ministers test Hyderabad’s new Metro-bus common pass
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers travelled by metro and bus in Hyderabad using the newly introduced common pass. The government says the scheme will simplify transfers between Hyderabad Metro Rail and TGSRTC services, while passenger feedback will guide further improvements.
Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers travelled by metro and bus in Hyderabad on Saturday to assess the city’s newly launched common pass. The pass allows commuters to use Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation services with a single ticketing arrangement. The ministers’ journey came a day after the scheme was introduced.
Vikramarka, accompanied by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and other ministers, officials, an MP and legislators, travelled from Begumpet Metro Station to Jubilee Hills Check Post. They then boarded a TGSRTC bus and continued to the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat.
During both journeys, the ministers spoke with passengers and sought their views on the integrated system. The Hindu reported that commuters welcomed the initiative, saying it removed the need to buy separate tickets for metro and bus services. Passengers also said the arrangement improved last-mile connectivity and reduced confusion over bus routes after leaving metro stations.
Vikramarka said the common pass would reduce travel difficulties and make transfers between the two services more seamless. The Deputy Chief Minister said women commuters and regular metro users had expressed satisfaction with the facility. He added that the government’s wider aim was to create an integrated public transport network across the city.
The government is also exploring the possible future integration of auto-rickshaws and app-based mobility services. Prabhakar said the common pass could save commuters time, effort and money, while encouraging people to use public transport and helping address traffic congestion. He said daily and monthly passes had already been introduced and that the common pass would be improved using passenger feedback.
