Pranavi Urs becomes first Indian woman to win Asian Games golf gold

Pranavi Urs made history by winning India’s first women’s individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games after recovering from an early triple bogey in the final round. She finished one shot ahead of China’s Yin Ruoning, while India also secured silver in the women’s team event alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar.
Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win an individual golf gold medal at the Asian Games after producing a comeback victory in the final round at Kasugai Country Club on Saturday. The 23-year-old from Mysore began the round with a three-shot lead but lost it on the third hole after recording a triple bogey. She recovered with birdies on the sixth, 10th and 13th holes before closing with five successive pars.
Urs finished the tournament at 15-under 265, one shot ahead of China’s Yin Ruoning, who carded a final-round 67 to finish on 14-under 266. Singapore’s Shannon Tan also ended on 266 and won the playoff for bronze. The decisive birdie came on the 13th hole, when Urs’s putt appeared to circle the rim before dropping in.
She said she had not been certain she had won until Tan congratulated her, having understood that the final putt could either secure gold or force a playoff. Urs’s victory also helped India win silver in the women’s team event with Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar. India finished with a combined score of 546, behind China’s 538, while Chinese Taipei took bronze with 560.
Ashok finished 14th individually after a final round of 67 that included six consecutive back-nine birdies. Dagar carded 77 and ended tied for 23rd. The result was India’s best performance in the women’s team event and ended a 24-year wait for an individual Asian Games golf gold.
Urs continues to compete on the Ladies European Tour, where she is seeking her first title.
