Revanth Reddy accuses BRS of failing Telangana’s weavers and farmers

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi of leaving weavers, farmers and Gulf migrants in distress during its nearly decade-long rule. Reddy made the remarks during a padayatra and public meeting in Sircilla on Wednesday.

He was accompanied by Cabinet colleagues, party leaders and cadres, and laid foundation stones for development works valued at ₹345.78 crore in the constituency represented by BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao.

The Chief Minister alleged that Sircilla had become associated with weaver suicides and migration to Gulf countries despite Rama Rao’s repeated election from the constituency. He criticised the former BRS government over the Kaleshwaram project and sand mining in the Manair river. Reddy also referred to the 2017 Nerella incident, alleging that Dalits were tortured after protesting against illegal sand transportation.

Comparing spending, Reddy said the BRS government had allocated ₹2,234 crore for weavers during its nearly 10-year tenure, while the Congress government had allocated ₹1,731 crore for Rajanna Sircilla district in the previous two-and-a-half years. He said pending Bathukamma saree bills had been cleared, weavers’ loans waived and a ₹5 lakh payment introduced for families of deceased Telangana Gulf migrant workers.

He also accused BRS leaders of misusing a rehabilitation package for land oustees and acquiring property through ill-gotten wealth. Reddy urged voters to elect Congress in the next Assembly election. He promised to induct the Congress MLA from Sircilla into the Cabinet and asked the Telangana Congress president to consider a weaver-community member for nomination to the Legislative Council.
