Shooter Rudrankksh Patil was honoured by the Thane Municipal Corporation after winning three medals at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. The TMC Sports Department organised the reception at the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Thane Entry Gate in Anandnagar on September 28. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Thane Mayor Sharmila Pimpalolkar addressed the event.
Patil won bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle competition. He also partnered Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane to win silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event, and took another silver in the men’s 50m rifle three positions team event. Speaking to The Hindu, Patil said he was satisfied with his performance, despite preparations not proceeding as planned.
He described the year as one of ups and downs and said the team had been targeting the Asian Games since the previous year. Patil had finished fourth at the previous Asian Games and had wanted to improve on that result. He said work with his coach, together with faith and belief, had produced the desired outcome.
Pimpalolkar welcomed Patil with a bouquet and said his marksmanship had brought pride to Thane and India. She added that his success in international competitions could motivate athletes in the city. Shinde congratulated Patil on his performance and wished him further success.
Before the Asian Games, Patil had won gold in the 10m air rifle at the 2022 World Shooting Championships.
