Six Falconets players join Nigeria squad for Olympic qualifiers
Nigeria interim coach Augustine Eguavoen has selected six players from the Falconets for the Super Falcons’ 2028 Olympic qualifying matches against Comoros. Four featured at the recent Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, while two others missed the tournament because of visa-related difficulties.
Six players from Nigeria’s Falconets squad have been called up to the senior women’s team for the country’s opening 2028 Olympic qualifying fixtures against Comoros, Punch Nigeria reports. The selected players include goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma, defender Tumininu Adeshina, midfielder Favour Nkwocha and forward Janet Akekoromowei. All four represented Nigeria at the 2026 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Farida Abdulwahab and Joy Igokwe are the other two players promoted to the Super Falcons squad. They were part of the Falconets set-up but did not join the team in Poland because of visa-related issues. Interim Super Falcons coach Augustine Eguavoen announced a 28-player squad on Tuesday through the team’s account on X.
The list also includes captain Rasheedat Ajibade, forward Asisat Oshoala and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Defender Ashleigh Plumptre returns after missing the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations because of injury. Nigeria are beginning their route towards qualification for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The players have been instructed to report to the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday, October 3. Both qualifying matches will be played at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo. The first leg is scheduled for Friday, October 9, with the return match set for Tuesday, October 13.
Comoros does not have a venue approved by the Confederation of African Football, meaning both fixtures will take place in Nigeria. Nigeria are 10-time African champions.
