After she arrived, relatives allegedly confiscated her Spanish passport and confined her in a family home.
They then arranged her marriage to a cousin despite her opposition, the report said. Her partner reported to police in April that she had been taken to Pakistan by members of her family. He had previously been attacked with a bladed weapon in Barcelona by two men allegedly linked to the case.
Spanish police subsequently worked with Spain’s embassy in Pakistan to locate the woman and organise her return. Police said she received specialist support after arriving back in Spain. The investigation remains open.
Authorities are working to identify everyone involved in the alleged forced marriage and the attack on her partner. The case comes from Barcelona, which has a sizeable Pakistani community. More than 26,000 Pakistani nationals are registered in the city, making them the third-largest foreign nationality group there after Italians and Colombians, according to the supplied report.
