TDP MLC alleges ₹500 crore irregularity in secretariat recruitment

Telugu Desam Party MLC Bhumireddy Ramagopal Reddy has accused the previous YSRCP administration in Andhra Pradesh of a ₹500 crore scam involving recruitment to village and ward secretariats. Speaking to the media in Kadapa on Saturday, Reddy alleged that YSRCP leaders at different levels sold jobs for between ₹5 lakh and ₹10 lakh each. He said names of recommended candidates were written on paper chits and sent to district Collectors.

The MLC attributed the alleged recruitment practices to the administration led by former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The source material contained no response from Jagan Mohan Reddy or the YSRCP to the allegations.

Reddy also questioned appointments made through the sports quota. He said 3,437 jobs had been awarded under the quota and alleged that 801 people were selected merely for participating in school games. He claimed that candidates who had played a game at a neighbouring school, without winning a medal or prize, could obtain a job by producing a certificate.

He also referred to participation in rural games, folk festivals and countryside celebrations such as Sankranti Sambaralu. Reddy said the alleged recruitment record undermined criticism directed at the current government’s sports-quota policy. He called on the state government to investigate the matter and uncover what he described as a scam.

The report presented the claims as allegations made by the TDP leader. It did not provide details of any investigation already launched, evidence supporting the alleged financial figure or a response from officials of the previous government.
