Telangana minister urges Backward Classes to unite for greater representation

Speaking at a state-organised event in Hyderabad on Saturday marking the 131st birth anniversary of Chakali Ilamma, popularly known as Rajaka leader Chakali Ilamma, Vivek said her resistance to feudal domination remained an inspiration for the Rajaka community and other Backward Classes groups.
The minister also pledged support for the Backward Classes’ demand for inclusion in the caste census. He said the Rajaka community had campaigned for years to address its concerns and secure its rights, and called for wider support for its struggle for recognition and self-respect. Vivek said Backward Classes voters had a significant presence in several wards and were winning local body elections.
However, he argued that the community needed comparable representation in larger elections and that unity would help it achieve that goal. He referred to the reservations provided by law for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes because of historical discrimination. He said Backward Classes communities also had capable leaders who could represent them and advance their interests.
The minister recalled his own involvement in installing statues of Ilamma in Peddapalli and Mancherial districts. He also said he had supported the Rajaka community during his period as a Member of Parliament. Vivek praised national Backward Classes leader R.
Krishnaiah for his work on community rights and commended Rajaka leader and Member of the Legislative Council Baswaraju Saraiah for his service. BC Welfare and Development adviser V. Hanumantha Rao and several other community leaders attended the celebrations at Ravindra Bharathi.
