Telangana officials have been directed to improve sanitation, security and basic infrastructure at SC and ST Gurukul institutions, hostels and Ashram schools. The plan also covers faster distribution of student supplies, CCTV at girls’ campuses, remote teaching and a dedicated programme for Intermediate students.

The Telangana government has directed officials to strengthen sanitation, security and basic infrastructure at SC and ST Gurukul institutions, hostels and Ashram schools. Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar issued the instructions during a review of programmes implemented through the Project Management Unit on Saturday. He also ordered officials to ensure that uniforms, footwear and textbooks reach students without delay.

Officials were asked to identify procurement and distribution bottlenecks and work with District Collectors to resolve them. The minister said individual officers should be assigned responsibility for distribution and given deadlines. The government will assess whether large residential campuses have enough sanitation workers and prepare proposals to improve their remuneration.

Infrastructure planning will cover classrooms, kitchens, drinking-water facilities, reverse-osmosis plants, washing areas, sanitation facilities and other essential equipment. Security at girls’ Gurukul institutions is also due to be strengthened. The proposed measures include additional personnel and CCTV surveillance, with cameras linked to local police stations where feasible.

On academics, Kumar directed officials to develop a uniform approach across institutions. Students at remote campuses are to receive access to subject experts through online classes and other remote support. A separate academic plan will be prepared for Intermediate students.

It is expected to include study materials, digital resources, additional coaching and guidance for competitive examinations and higher education. Officials were also told to review sanctioned posts, staff strength and vacancies and submit a complete staffing position to the governing body.
