Tirupati temple body plans international-standard cattle facilities

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams plans to upgrade its goshalas and animal-care facilities to international standards, with an emphasis on animal welfare, hygiene and safety. TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary announced the plan on Saturday after meeting representatives of Vantara, an animal rescue, rehabilitation and conservation initiative founded by Anant Ambani and associated with Reliance Industries.

The meeting reviewed a proposal for Vantara to voluntarily support the development of the TTD’s goshalas and related facilities. Chowdary called for a comprehensive plan to modernise the existing infrastructure and provide cattle with safer, cleaner and more comfortable surroundings. The proposed improvements include repairs and painting, upgraded gates, protective mesh, improved drainage and ventilation, and better arrangements for feed and water.

Landscaping around the facilities is also envisaged. Chowdary directed officials to ensure that designs take account of cattle movement and welfare. He also stressed the need to maintain appropriate hygiene and safety standards throughout the facilities.

The TTD official further called for a plan to maximise the production of milk and other dairy products required for religious services at the Tirumala temple. He said greater production within Tirumala would help meet the temple’s needs while giving priority to the conservation and welfare of cattle.
