The West African Examinations Council has appointed Amos Dangut as registrar and chief executive officer, while Suleiman Kum becomes head of its Nigeria National Office. Dangut succeeds Pateh Bah of The Gambia and will serve until September 2031. Kum, a long-serving WAEC administrator, takes over after Dangut’s elevation.

The West African Examinations Council has appointed Amos Dangut as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, while Suleiman Kum has been named Head of the Nigeria National Office. The appointments were announced in separate statements by WAEC spokesperson Moyosola Adesina. Dangut assumed the registrar’s office in October 2026, succeeding Pateh Bah of The Gambia, and will serve a five-year term ending in September 2031.

WAEC said Dangut’s appointment was ratified by its International Governing Board at the council’s 74th Annual Meeting in Accra, Ghana, in March. As registrar, he will oversee WAEC operations across its member countries. Dangut previously headed WAEC’s Nigeria National Office.

He joined the council in 1998 after beginning his education career at St Louis College, Jos, where he also worked as a WAEC examiner. During more than two decades at WAEC, he held positions including Assistant Registrar, Head of Examinations Security, branch controller, Controller of the Post Examinations Department and Zonal Coordinator of the Ikeja office. He became Nigeria’s national office head in October 2023 before his promotion.

Kum succeeds Dangut in Nigeria. He joined WAEC in 1998 and rose through roles covering examination security, test administration, printing, branch management and administration. Before his appointment, he served in the office of the Head of the Nigeria National Office.

WAEC described both men as experienced test developers and administrators. The council credited Dangut with using information and communications technology in test development, post-examination activities and test administration. It said Kum had led initiatives including additional security features in printing operations, facial-recognition biometric attendance systems and computer-based achievement tests.

He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture and a postgraduate diploma in education and is completing a master’s degree in educational administration and planning.
