Warm sunshine gives way to showers as unsettled UK weather approaches

The UK is expected to experience a mixed weekend of sunshine, showers and rain, with a more unsettled spell forecast to develop next week. Saturday is set to bring warm sunshine to many areas, although showers are possible in western parts of the country. On Sunday, spells of rain are expected to move across most regions at some point.

Temperatures are forecast to range from roughly 15C in the north to 21C in the south. Some areas of south-east England could see temperatures in the low 20s Celsius during warmer spells. A deep area of low pressure is expected to approach from the Atlantic next week.

It could bring windy weather and heavy rain, particularly in western areas. Northern and western parts of the UK are most likely to experience the wettest conditions. Some drought-affected areas of England and Wales may receive little useful rainfall.

Central and eastern England could remain largely dry during parts of the week, despite rain elsewhere. Rainfall totals for September have varied considerably. North-west Scotland has recorded up to 146% of its expected monthly rainfall, while Achnagart in Highland has had rain on 27 consecutive days.

By contrast, Bridlington in East Yorkshire has received only 11% of its expected September rainfall. Forecasts show no significant period of unseasonable warmth in the final days of the month, although some pleasantly warm and sunny days remain possible early next week.
