Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has urged residents to use the 2027 general elections to choose leaders capable of sustaining and expanding infrastructure development in Abuja and surrounding communities. He highlighted road construction, transport, healthcare, education and security initiatives while calling for peaceful coexistence and protection of public assets.

Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has urged residents to use the 2027 general elections to elect leaders who will sustain and expand infrastructure development across the territory. Wike made the appeal in an Independence Day message to FCT residents as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary. He described Abuja as a symbol of national unity and said the administration remained committed to developing it into a world-class capital with modern infrastructure and improved public services.

The minister said the FCT Administration had invested in road construction and public transportation, with the aim of extending development beyond the city centre to communities across the territory. He claimed the road network had been transformed from central Abuja to remote rural communities, with drainage systems and solar streetlights included on projects. According to Wike, the projects were intended to improve accessibility and address security concerns in communities far from the city centre.

He also said ultramodern bus terminals had been built in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, with similar facilities planned for Kuje, Bwari and Gwagwalada. He said the administration was improving access to healthcare and education across the six area councils, arguing that a healthy and educated population was necessary for sustainable development. On security, Wike said surveillance had been intensified and that community policing and modern technology were being deployed with security agencies to combat crime.

Wike called on residents to remain law-abiding, protect public infrastructure from vandalism and maintain peaceful coexistence. He urged voters to choose what he described as progressive and visionary leaders with the capacity to bring further development and prosperity to the FCT.
