Wike urges FCT voters to prioritise continuity in 2027 elections

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has called on residents to elect leaders able to continue and expand infrastructure projects in Abuja and surrounding communities during the 2027 general elections. He highlighted road, transport, healthcare, education and security initiatives while asking residents to protect public facilities and maintain peaceful coexistence.
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has urged residents to use the 2027 general elections to choose leaders who can sustain and expand infrastructure projects across the territory. Wike made the appeal in an Independence Day message to FCT residents as Nigeria marked its 66th anniversary. He described the election, scheduled for January 2027 according to his statement, as an opportunity to select “progressive, visionary leaders” with the capacity to continue the territory’s development programme.
The minister said the FCT Administration had invested in roads, public transport, healthcare and education as part of efforts to make Abuja a modern and functional capital. He said road construction had extended beyond the city centre to communities across the territory, with some projects incorporating drainage systems and solar streetlights. Wike said an ultramodern bus terminal had been completed in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, with similar facilities planned for Kuje, Bwari and Gwagwalada.
He added that primary healthcare centres and schools were being rehabilitated across the six area councils. On security, the minister said the administration was working with security agencies to protect lives and property. He cited intensified surveillance, community policing and the use of modern technology as elements of the effort to combat crime.
Wike asked residents to obey the law, protect public infrastructure from vandalism and maintain cleanliness and order. He also called for peaceful coexistence among people of different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, describing Abuja as a symbol of national unity. He said the administration’s objective was to create a world-class capital in which public services worked for residents in the city, satellite towns and rural communities.
Wike also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s reform programme and said the FCT would continue to align with the federal government’s Renewed Hope agenda. The minister acknowledged challenges faced by Nigeria over the past 66 years but said he remained optimistic about the country’s prospects for renewal and sustainable growth.
