Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal has launched construction of a 95-kilometre road connecting several agricultural communities with Tsafe, alongside five bridges. The state says the project will improve movement of goods, support economic activity and help security agencies respond to threats. Two contractors will build separate sections in the two-phase scheme.

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has launched construction of a 95-kilometre road linking several communities in Tsafe Local Government Area with the town of Tsafe. The route will connect ’Yandoton Daji, Cediya, Doka, ’Yan Waren Daji, Hayin Alhaji Bedi, Unguwar Joji and ’Yankuzo. Five bridges are also planned along the road.

The project has been divided into two phases. SKY Construction Company will build the first 47-kilometre section, while Setraco Construction Company Limited will handle the remaining 48 kilometres. Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Sunday, Lawal said the road passed through predominantly agricultural communities and was important to the state’s economy.

He said improved access would support the movement of goods and services. The governor also linked the project to security. He said a reconstructed road would improve the mobility of security agencies, strengthen their operational capacity and help them respond more quickly to threats or attacks.

Lawal described the work as part of a wider infrastructure renewal programme that includes the Gusau–Magami–Dansadau, Zurmi–Rukudawa and Mallamawa–Bukkuyum roads, as well as a spur to Masamar Mudi. He said the project was intended to improve safe travel, stimulate economic activity and reconnect communities. He also acknowledged the urgency of the work because of the difficult circumstances facing communities in the area.

The governor directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to supervise the project closely, enforce quality assurance and ensure compliance with approved engineering standards. He said contractors were expected to deliver value for money and infrastructure capable of lasting.
