Bamidele unveils N200m renovation of Ekiti science college

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has inaugurated the first phase of a renovation project at Government Science College, Iyin-Ekiti, saying the investment is intended to improve students’ learning environment and support human-capital development. The work covered hostels, classrooms, administrative facilities, the dining hall and kitchen.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has inaugurated the first phase of a renovation project costing more than N200m at Government Science College in Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The intervention covered the boys’ and girls’ hostels, administrative and classroom blocks, the dining hall and kitchen. Bamidele also presented a new bus to the school to support its operations and students.
Speaking at the ceremony on Saturday, the senator said the project was driven by his belief in human-capital development. He said the early stages of education were crucial to the development of individuals and the country. Bamidele said the project’s purpose extended beyond the physical improvements.
He said he wanted the school to provide a foundation for students who could become professionals and leaders in different sectors. He also linked the intervention to the Ekiti State Government’s support for the use of the school’s permanent site by the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti. The university, he said, could not immediately leave the premises as initially expected because of circumstances including heavy rainfall.
The senator said he obtained approval for a six-week renovation period during the students’ vacation and that the completed work represented what could be achieved within that period. He announced plans for a second phase, including modern laboratories, a library and other facilities to strengthen the school’s science focus. Ekiti Commissioner for Education Adebimpe Aderiye, representing Governor Biodun Oyebanji, praised the project and said the state would support public schools and help ensure that facilities were maintained and properly used.
