Soludo orders peace as Anambra communities face renewed clashes

Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo has directed Amaeze Aguleri and Umuoba Anam to end hostilities after a communal clash caused deaths, injuries and property destruction. He has summoned stakeholders to an emergency meeting in Awka and ordered security agencies to protect residents and prevent further violence.
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has ordered Amaeze Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities in Anambra East Local Government Area to immediately stop hostilities following a recent communal clash. The violence resulted in deaths and injuries, while several buildings, including the palace of a traditional ruler, were burnt, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime. Aburime said Soludo expressed deep sadness over the casualties and reiterated that violence, bloodshed and destruction of property had no place in Anambra State.
The governor urged residents of both communities to maintain peace and exercise restraint. To address what the statement described as the root causes of the long-running dispute, Soludo has convened an emergency peace and security meeting with stakeholders from the affected communities. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Light House in Awka.
The governor directed that all grievances, claims and presentations be submitted only through the designated representatives of the communities at the meeting. The instruction is intended to provide a formal channel for addressing the competing claims rather than allowing further confrontation. Security agencies, including the police, have been fully deployed to the area, Aburime said.
Their stated role is to enforce law and order, protect lives and property, and prevent another breach of the peace. Soludo also reassured residents across Anambra that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property and resolving communal disputes peacefully.
