The Brisbane Broncos defeated the Gold Coast Titans 20-8 to reach their fifth NRLW grand final. The defending premiers built a 20-4 half-time lead and will face the Sydney Roosters next Sunday. The match will be Broncos veteran Ali Brigginshaw’s final game before retirement.

The Brisbane Broncos reached their fifth NRLW grand final by defeating the Gold Coast Titans 20-8 in the preliminary final at Robina. The defending premiers secured their fifth consecutive victory and will face the Sydney Roosters in next Sunday’s decider. Brisbane have won all four previous grand finals they have contested, including last year’s 22-18 victory over the Roosters.

The Broncos dominated the opening half and led 20-4 at the interval. Full-back Tamika Upton scored the opening try after beating three defenders, before Jesse Southwell helped create space for Romy Teitzel to run through. The Titans responded when Destiny Mino-Sinapati crossed in the corner after a cutout pass from Evania Isa’ako.

Brisbane then extended their advantage when Upton put Lauren Dam over, with Teitzel involved in the move. Gold Coast reduced the deficit after the break when Isa’ako collected her own ricocheted grubber kick. The Titans could not add to their score, however, as Brisbane’s defence held firm near the line.

The match was disrupted by injuries. Titans lock Sienna Lofipo left with a suspected broken jaw late in the first half, while full-back Lily Patston went off after a category-one head-injury assessment. The defeat ended a 10-match winning run for Gold Coast.

The final will also be the last match for Broncos veteran Ali Brigginshaw before she retires.
