Graduates urged to pair technology skills with ethics and human values
At Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering’s graduation ceremony in Mysuru, former IIIT Allahabad director P. Nagabhushan urged students to keep learning as artificial intelligence and data engineering advance. He said technology should support human intelligence and creativity, while integrity, emotional intelligence and lawful conduct remained essential.
Engineering graduates should continue learning, adapt to technological change and combine technical expertise with human values, former IIIT Allahabad director P. Nagabhushan said at a graduation ceremony in Mysuru on Saturday. Delivering the third graduation day address at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering, Mr.
Nagabhushan said obtaining a degree was necessary but insufficient to become a competent engineer, technocrat and responsible human being. He highlighted the importance of continuous learning amid advances in artificial intelligence and data engineering. He encouraged graduates to pursue postgraduate study, while advising those with family responsibilities to give priority to financial stability.
He also cautioned students against excessive dependence on social approval and external appearances, urging them to remain authentic rather than live behind a social mask. Mr. Nagabhushan said artificial intelligence should enhance human intelligence and creativity rather than replace independent thought.
He urged the graduates to preserve individuality, emotional intelligence, integrity and ethical values. He also warned that excessive busyness could prevent people from thinking strategically and pursuing meaningful objectives. Explaining the word “SIMPLE”, he associated it with a strategic approach, integrated intelligence, mature moves, politeness, law-abiding conduct and elegance.
A total of 941 engineering students graduated in various disciplines. Sanjana Srinivas was the college topper and ranked first in Electronics and Communication Engineering. The college also announced branch-wise toppers in mechanical engineering, computer science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, information science, electrical and electronics engineering, and civil engineering.
