India wins women’s trap silver as Neeru and Shapath reach finals
India won silver in the women’s trap team event at the Asian Games in Japan, finishing behind China and ahead of Kuwait. Neeru Dhanda qualified for the women’s individual final, while Shapath Bharadwaj reached the men’s final after a shoot-off despite India’s sixth-place team finish.

Neeru led India with 118 points from a possible 125. She finished joint-top with Qatar’s Ray Bassil in the individual qualification and set a Games qualification record. Neeru also secured a place in the eight-shooter individual final.
Aashima scored 106 and Manisha 104, finishing 16th and 23rd respectively in the individual qualification. India’s men’s team of Shapath Bharadwaj, Kynan Chenai and Ahvar Rizvi finished sixth among 10 teams with 339 points. Kuwait won the men’s team gold with 355, Qatar took silver with 349 and Kazakhstan claimed bronze with 348.
Shapath nevertheless qualified for the men’s individual final after finishing eighth. The 24-year-old from Meerut secured the final qualification place in a shoot-off against Mohammed Al-Rumaihi. The men’s result was a setback compared with the previous Asian Games in China, where India won the team gold through Kynan Chenai, Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Prithviraj Tondaiman.
India was due to have two representatives in the individual trap finals later on Tuesday, with Neeru and Shapath both competing.
