Employees appointed after the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission-Combined Graduate Level examination have protested following the state government’s decision to cancel the test and other examinations conducted by a private agency. The cancellation affected 1,975 employees, many of whom were stopped by police from entering their workplaces at the Secretariat. They said they had not received notices stating that they had been dismissed or should not report for duty.
The government also cancelled examinations conducted by TSR Data Processing Private Limited since 2014. The decision followed weeks of protests by students who alleged irregularities in the JSSC-CGL examination and demanded its cancellation and a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry. The CGL examination was held in 2023, with appointments finalised in 2025.
The report says 1,932 candidates secured employment through it. Ten examinations conducted by TDPL involved 502 posts. Protesting employees said they had passed the selection process, received appointments and were already serving.
Some said they had given up other employment opportunities to work in Jharkhand. They argued that cancelling the entire examination punished candidates who were not responsible for alleged irregularities. The student campaign had continued at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi for 24 days.
Its leader, Ravindra Paswan, said the group was awaiting an official notification listing all cancelled examinations and maintained that its demand for a CBI inquiry remained. The government’s decision followed a special Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Opposition leader Babulal Marandi criticised the move, saying cancellation was not a substitute for an investigation.
A hunger strike by another student leader ended after the decision.
