Katsina police arrest man over alleged fatal attack on father

Police in Katsina State have arrested a 27-year-old man, Sada Tambai, over the alleged killing of his 80-year-old father, Adamu Tambai, in Mundadu Village, Bindawa Local Government Area. The Katsina State Police Command said the incident occurred on September 21, 2026, after it received a distress call from the District Head of Bindawa, Dan Yusufan Katsina. The elderly man, a former ward head of Mundadu Village, was reportedly found lying motionless in front of his residence.

According to a statement issued by the command’s public relations officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq, detectives were sent to the scene after the report was received. Officers evacuated the victim to the nearest hospital for treatment. The police said the attending doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.

The command did not provide further medical details about the injuries. Police said preliminary inquiries led to the arrest of the deceased’s son. The command alleged that Tambai confessed during interrogation to striking his father on the head with a stick, causing the injuries that led to his death.

The allegation has not been tested in court. The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Commissioner of Police Ali Fage directed that the case be handled through what the command described as a discreet and thorough investigation.

The police said Tambai would be arraigned after the investigation is completed. The command also offered condolences to the family and said it remained committed to ensuring that justice was served.
