Madhusudan Sai proposes short courses to narrow education-employment gap

Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, founder of the One World One Family Mission, has called for education reforms and proposed introducing skill-based short-term courses across institutions run by the mission. Speaking at a “Compassion in Action” programme in Hyderabad on Friday, he said education needed to be aligned more closely with industry requirements. He described a widening gap between conventional academic learning and the skills employers expect.

Sai said students in several developed countries, including the United States, were increasingly choosing not to pursue long-term courses. He argued that Indian colleges also needed to respond to changing employment needs while continuing to teach values. He said educational institutions should prepare students for real-world opportunities without abandoning moral education.

He expressed concern that value-based classes were declining in schools and that some parents considered them unnecessary, a trend he linked to wider challenges affecting younger people. Sai praised members of Gen Z as smart and quick learners but advised them to adopt a more balanced pace of life. His comments came during an interaction with Tollywood producer and Suresh Productions managing director Daggubati Suresh Babu.

He also discussed healthcare initiatives at the Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. According to Sai, the institute is working on wellness, longevity, precision medicine and genomics. Researchers have developed an integrated treatment model and are pursuing a patent for the innovation.

The programme included a testimony from Bhavana, a Class X student at Sri Sathya Sai Prashanthi Niketanam in Siddipet. She spoke about overcoming serious difficulties with support from the institution. The event ended with a performance by the Sai Symphony Orchestra, comprising students from Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence and Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam.

The orchestra was described as a Guinness World Record holder.
