A 56-year-old man died after the car he was travelling in caught fire on the Sangadigunta-Ponnur Road in Guntur on Tuesday, September 29, according to The Hindu. The man, identified as Tadikonda Harikrishna, was seated in the rear of the vehicle. His son, Akhilesh, was also inside the car when flames reportedly broke out suddenly.
Local residents said the fire appeared to have started in the vehicle’s air-conditioning system. The doors reportedly locked, leaving Harikrishna trapped inside while the car burned. A Fire Services employee who was nearby reached the scene and rescued Akhilesh.
Harikrishna could not be brought out and died at the spot, according to the report. His body was found in the rear seat after the fire was extinguished. A relative, Ganesh B., said Harikrishna and his son had gone to a hospital earlier that morning for dialysis.
The incident occurred near their home, the report said. Police reached the location after local residents raised the alarm and began an investigation. Guntur district Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal told The Hindu that officers were examining the circumstances of the accident.
