A man was rescued by firefighters after a car crashed into a house in Waltham Abbey, Essex, late on Friday night, the BBC reported. Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the property on Ninefields shortly before 23:00 BST. They found a silver Skoda lodged in the corner of the house, with smoke coming from the vehicle.
Essex Fire and Rescue Service said the front of the house had been badly damaged and that one resident was removed from the rear of the property using a ladder. A woman was taken to hospital for a precautionary assessment. Police arrested a man on suspicion of being unfit through drink or drugs.
He was taken to hospital for treatment, according to the report. Photographs showed a first-floor room and its contents, including books and bedding, had collapsed on to the vehicle. Bricks had also fallen from the property, and the area was cordoned off.
The fire service said firefighters rescued a man from the house before leaving the scene with police and the resident. The supplied material did not give details of the man’s injuries or the extent of the damage assessment. The report did not state whether charges had been brought against the arrested man.
Police and emergency services were continuing to deal with the aftermath of the collision.
