Nigeria finished eighth at the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship after a 3-0 defeat by Ghana in the seventh-place playoff. The loss ended a campaign in which Nigeria recorded two victories and three defeats. Their final position left them outside the three African places available for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
Nigeria reached the quarter-finals after progressing from the group stage. They took the opening set against Morocco 25-20, but Morocco recovered to win the next two sets. The Nigerians forced a deciding set by taking the fourth 26-24.
Morocco, however, won the fifth 15-12 to reach the semi-finals and send Nigeria into the classification bracket. Nigeria then lost 3-1 to Rwanda before Ghana completed their tournament with a straight-sets victory in the seventh-place match. The results meant the Nigerian team did not reach the medal matches.
At the top of the competition, hosts Tunisia defeated Cameroon 3-0 in the final at El Menzah Sports Palace. Tunisia retained the African title and secured the continent’s qualification place for the men’s volleyball tournament at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Cameroon had already secured a place at the 2027 World Championship by reaching the final and took silver.
Morocco and Algeria contested the bronze-medal match for Africa’s remaining World Championship ticket.
