North-East governors approve regional air shuttle and new gas stations

Governors from Nigeria’s six North-East states have agreed to establish a regional air shuttle and partner with Green Ville Energy to expand compressed and liquefied natural gas stations. The measures are intended to reduce transport costs, improve movement across the subregion and support wider economic activity, according to their communiqué.
Governors from Nigeria’s six North-East states have agreed to establish a regional air shuttle and expand compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas infrastructure across the subregion. The decisions were contained in a communiqué issued after the 13th meeting of the North-East Governors’ Forum, held in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Saturday. The forum consists of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states.
The governors said the proposed air service would make movement between and within the states faster and easier. They said the initiative was intended to reduce transport costs, improve the movement of people and goods, and help attract more economic activity to the region. The forum also agreed to work with Green Ville Energy to build and provide more CNG and LNG stations.
The governors said the expansion would ease the cost of transportation and strengthen logistics across the subregion. They welcomed Federal Government support, through the North-East Development Commission, for 10,000 electric tricycles, 10 electric buses and 300 electric taxis. According to the communiqué, the vehicles were expected to be launched in October.
On infrastructure, the governors appreciated renewed attention to the Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Maiduguri rail corridor and the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Maiduguri highway. They also called for stalled oil exploration in Borno’s Magumeri and Gubio local government areas to resume and urged completion of the Mambila Hydropower Project. The forum said the Dadinkowa Hydropower Plant had begun feeding the national grid and encouraged states to use the electricity law and the region’s solar potential to develop solar and mini-grid projects.
It also reaffirmed cooperation on security, education, youth employment and environmental protection. The next meeting is scheduled for December 18–19, 2026, in Gombe State.
