Olympic champion Ray Mercer set for Lagos grassroots boxing event

Former World Boxing Organisation heavyweight champion Ray Mercer is expected to attend the second season of The Street Rumble, a grassroots boxing event scheduled for 13 December in Lagos. Mercer, who won Olympic gold in 1988, will appear as a ringside guest at the event at Maracana Square in Ajegunle. His participation was announced by Match Maker Sports International, the event’s organiser.

The organiser also announced Brila Media as the official media partner for the second edition. Brila Media will cover the event through interviews, promotional material and reports about participating fighters. Match Maker Sports International said Mercer’s appearance would add an international dimension to a competition intended to promote emerging boxing talent.

The event is also designed to provide young fighters with a platform to develop their careers. The second edition follows the inaugural event, which was held in April. Organisers said the new season was expected to offer a broader showcase of grassroots boxing talent in Nigeria.

“We are excited to officially welcome Brila Media as the Official Media Partner of The Street Rumble Season 2,” chief executive Mike Adeyemo said. Adeyemo said the media partnership would help take the event to a wider audience. He added that the organisation’s mission was to promote grassroots boxing and create opportunities for the next generation of fighters.
