Rangers International will put their position at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table on the line against Abia Warriors at Awka City Stadium. The champions arrive after a midweek win, while Abia Warriors are seeking to build on their first home victory of the season.

Rangers International will defend their position at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League when they meet Abia Warriors in a South-East derby at Awka City Stadium on Sunday. Rangers moved to the summit after defeating Warri Wolves 1-0 in a rescheduled midweek fixture. The victory came after their previous league loss to Ikorodu City at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos.

Abia Warriors will enter the Matchday 7 fixture with renewed confidence after beating Bendel Insurance 3-0, their first home win of the season. Imama Amapakabo’s team will seek to carry that momentum into Awka and claim local bragging rights. Recent meetings have been closely contested.

Rangers have won three of the teams’ last six encounters, Abia Warriors have won two and one match ended in a draw. The game also represents another venue change for Rangers. The champions have been unable to use the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium while renovation work continues.

They first hosted at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, then used Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri for their next two home fixtures. Abia Warriors may see the absence of the traditional home setting as an opportunity, while Rangers will seek to retain first place. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm at Awka City Stadium.
