Rangers International will defend top spot in the Nigeria Premier Football League when they meet Abia Warriors in a South-East derby on Matchday 7. Unbeaten Rivers United trail by one point, while Barau FC also have 12 points and Enyimba seek to build on a 4-2 win.

Rangers International return to action as Nigeria Premier Football League leaders when they face Abia Warriors in a South-East derby on Matchday 7. The defending champions moved back to the summit after beating Warri Wolves 1-0 in a rescheduled midweek fixture. Their next match in Awka carries significance beyond the league table, with Abia Warriors seeking to build on a 3-0 home victory over Bendel Insurance.

Rangers have won three of their last six meetings with Abia Warriors, who have won two. The other match ended in a draw. The result in Awka could therefore affect both the title race and the regional rivalry.

Rangers continue to play away from their traditional Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium because of renovation work. Their home fixtures have been staged at venues including the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta and Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. The Awka Township Stadium will host this encounter.

Rivers United are one point behind the leaders after six unbeaten matches, recording three wins and three draws. They face Ikorodu City on Sunday after a demanding run of fixtures. Rivers drew 1-1 with Katsina United in their latest outing, with Samson Olasupo scoring before Sani Mubarak equalised with a deflected free-kick.

Ikorodu City have eight points from six matches and will be seeking a win against the unbeaten visitors. Elsewhere, Enyimba will host Plateau United after their emphatic 4-2 victory over Shooting Stars. Plateau arrive after beating Inter Lagos 2-0.

Barau FC, also on 12 points and unbeaten after six matches, travel to Bendel Insurance. Insurance are seeking a response after their defeat by Abia Warriors. Kano Pillars and Sporting Lagos open the weekend on Saturday, with the remaining nine fixtures scheduled for Sunday.
