South Coast Railway chief reviews operations at Rayanapadu workshop

South Coast Railway General Manager Sandeep Mathur inspected the Rayanapadu wagon workshop in Vijayawada on Sunday and reviewed its operations, productivity and safety arrangements. Mathur was accompanied by Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer Amit Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya and Chief Workshop Manager M. Trinadha Kumar during the inspection.

The team visited key areas of the workshop, including maintenance bays, periodic overhaul lines, assembly sections and the wheel and bogie shops. Mathur assessed the workshop’s current productivity and examined its development plans. He also reviewed proposals for future infrastructure augmentation and took stock of safety measures at the facility.

The inspection focused on the workshop’s overall functioning and operational efficiency. During the visit, Mathur commissioned a Cartridge Tapered Roller Bearing overhauling section. He also commissioned a computer numerical control air plasma cutting machine.

The new facilities were introduced as part of the workshop’s operations, although the source material did not specify their capacity or the expected effect on production and maintenance timelines. Later, Mathur planted saplings on the workshop premises under the nationwide “Swachhata Hi Seva” programme. The visit combined an operational review with the launch of the two facilities and participation in the cleanliness-related initiative.
