Vice-President links technological progress with compassion at Kerala event

Speaking at Vishwa Seva Dinam in Amritapuri, he highlighted conflicts, humanitarian crises and loneliness, while the event also featured relief assistance, medical support and welfare initiatives.

Speaking at Amritapuri in Kerala on Sunday during Vishwa Seva Dinam, organised as part of Mata Amritanandamayi’s 73rd birthday celebrations, Mr.
Radhakrishnan said global challenges including conflicts, humanitarian crises and loneliness required more than technological solutions. He said advancement should also be compassionate. Praising Mata Amritanandamayi, the Vice-President said her life represented love and selfless service.
He said the idea of seva should transcend caste, creed and nationality by recognising humanity as the central principle of service. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had formally inaugurated the celebrations on Saturday. According to the material, Mr.
Shah praised Mata Amritanandamayi’s humanitarian work and said it had brought relief to people around the world. Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan described her as an example of compassion and said her actions demonstrated the importance of deeds.
During Sunday’s ceremony, the Mata Amritanandamayi Math handed over ₹2 crore to Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Surendra Thapa, for relief operations in areas affected by flash floods. Financial assistance was also distributed to families of victims of the Thrissur fireworks disaster and to fishermen’s families following deaths in boat accidents at Neendakara and Muthalappozhi. The event included certificates for subsidised organ-transplant surgeries and other medical assistance, support for self-help groups and gold ornaments for participants in a mass wedding.
A mass wedding involving 25 couples was held after the function. On Saturday, the Math also announced a ₹20-crore healthcare initiative at Amrita Hospitals in Kochi and Faridabad. The scheme is intended to provide fully subsidised specialised treatment to 1,000 patients and facilitate Kerala’s first uterine transplant surgery.
Assistance was also announced for flood-affected areas in Assam.
