Ekiti governor dissolves boards and ends appointments of political aides

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals in the state, while terminating the appointments of all political appointees. The decision affects special assistants, senior special assistants and technical assistants, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s special adviser on media, Yinka Oyebode. Mr Oyebode said the changes had become necessary as the governor’s first term approached its end and preparations continued for his second-term inauguration, scheduled for 16 October.

Mr Oyebanji was re-elected for a second consecutive term in the governorship election held on 20 June. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the final results on 21 June. The dissolution does not affect chairmen and members of statutory boards, including the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.

The governing councils of state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain in place, in line with earlier directives by the governor. Directors-general and technical advisers to the governor are likewise exempted from the termination. Although the boards of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission have been dissolved, their chairmen will remain in office.

The governor thanked the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and service to Ekiti State. He also wished them success in their future endeavours.
