APC wins all 17 chairmanship seats in Yobe local elections
The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission has declared All Progressives Congress candidates winners of all 17 chairmanship contests in the state’s local government elections. The All Progressives Congress has won all 17 chairmanship seats contested in Yobe State’s local government elections, according to the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission. The commission’s chairman, Ibrahim Yabani, announced the results on Sunday in Damaturu, the state capital. He said the election was conducted on September 26 across the state’s 178 electoral wards.
Yabani said 10 political parties participated in the exercise. According to him, votes were counted and collated after polling, with councillorship results declared at ward level and chairmanship results announced at the respective local government collation centres. He said the commission’s responsibility was to announce the results declared at the collation centres and identify the winners in accordance with the law.
The APC candidate declared winner in Bade was Musa Dagona, who received 54,312 votes. Lawan Bukar won in Bursari with 24,331 votes, while Bukar Adamu won Damaturu with 18,465 votes. Abdulmumin Usani won Fika with 61,326 votes, and Baba-Goni Bade won Fune with 74,411 votes.
Mohammed Musa was declared winner in Geidam with 35,832 votes; Dala Mala won Gujba with 27,900; Dayyabu Ilu won Gulani with 35,999; Umaru Aguya won Jakusko with 47,653; and Umara Mohammed won Karasuwa with 39,320 votes. The remaining winners were Idriss Mai Bukar in Machina, Samaila Musa in Nangere, Mohammed Malami in Nguru, Salisu Muktari in Potiskum, Mohammed Musa in Tarmuwa, Zanna Zakaria in Yunusari and Adam Jibrin in Yusufari. Their declared vote totals were 24,092, 37,780, 45,836, 58,705, 19,500, 35,848 and 31,930 respectively.
