Student leaders ask Kaduna youths to safeguard public projects

The president of Nigeria’s National Association of Nigerian Students, Akinteye Afeez, has urged young people in Kaduna to protect government infrastructure, saying roads, education facilities, healthcare projects and sports venues affect students’ mobility and prospects. His comments followed an inspection of ongoing and completed projects, including the Kabala Costain-Aliyu Makama Link Road.
The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Akinteye Afeez, has called on youths in Kaduna State to protect public infrastructure, saying the projects are important to education, transport and young people’s future. Afeez spoke on Saturday during an inspection of ongoing and completed projects by NANS leaders, including the Kabala Costain-Aliyu Makama Link Road. He said the road would connect northern and southern parts of Kaduna and provide an alternative route for residents.
According to Afeez, the road would improve access to farms, schools and healthcare facilities. He said better roads would also make travel to and from educational institutions easier and safer for students. The NANS delegation was in Kaduna for an extraordinary Senate meeting and used the opportunity to examine projects being carried out by the state government.
Afeez said the group was impressed by the quality and scale of the work inspected, particularly the link road, which he said was expected to be completed and handed over soon. He also praised investments in education, transportation, healthcare and sports. Afeez described the rehabilitation of Ahmadu Bello Stadium as an important youth-development project, noting that its planned facilities include a football pitch, gymnasium and swimming pool.
He said the stadium could help young people develop sporting talents and remain positively engaged. The NANS president urged the Kaduna government to maintain its interventions and appealed to residents to prevent public facilities from being damaged or abandoned. He said such neglect would ultimately harm students and other young people.
Kaduna State Roads Agency Managing Director Abdullahi Baba Ahmed said the government had initiated 116 road projects covering about 1,400 kilometres across the state’s 23 local government areas. He said 80 to 90 per cent had been completed, while the rest were at different stages. Ahmed said the projects included the 35-kilometre Gadan Gayan-Guraji-Kujama Road and a bridge across the River Kaduna.
He said NANS would compile its observations and submit a report to the state government.
