Students visit Sanganakallu site for World Tourism Day programme

Around 150 students visited the Sanganakallu prehistoric site in Ballari on Sunday as part of World Tourism Day celebrations. The visitors were from the history and tourism departments of Smt. Saraladevi Sathishchandra Agarwal Government First Grade College.
The programme was jointly organised by the district administration, the Department of Tourism, the college and the Robert Bruce Foote Sanganakallu Archaeological Museum. During the guided visit, the students learnt about Sanganakallu’s ancient history, Stone Age remains and natural environment. The site is recognised in the source material as an important prehistoric location in South India, with evidence of Neolithic settlements and associated artefacts.
A seminar and stage programme followed at the Hongirana auditorium of the Department of Kannada and Culture in Ballari. History professor Shashikanth delivered a lecture on the potential of digital technology and artificial intelligence to reshape tourism. Shashikanth discussed how emerging technologies could change the tourism sector and improve visitors’ experience and convenience.
Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture Nagaraj spoke about tourism’s contribution to cultural exchange and economic development. M. Ahiraj of the archaeological museum described the Sanganakallu site as globally significant and said the Ballari museum had a distinctive focus on prehistoric studies and research.
The students later viewed the museum’s collections, including material from the Palaeolithic to the Iron Age, human and animal remains, plant remains such as charred grains, beads and other objects recovered from Sanganakallu. Tourism officials, museum staff, college faculty and students attended the programme.
