Telangana discom supplies ₹17.8 crore of free power to Ganesh pandals
The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana supplied free electricity to 51,207 Ganesh pandals during the latest celebrations, according to its CMD Jitesh V. Patil. The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd. supplied free electricity to 51,207 Ganesh pandals during the latest Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, with the consumed power valued at about ₹17.8 crore, its Chairman and Managing Director Jitesh V. Patil said.
The pandals were spread across TGSPDCL’s 21 circles. The discom sanctioned a combined connected load of 1,12,586 kW, while the State government bore the electricity expenditure, according to officials. Within the limits of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and surrounding circles, 20,128 Ganesh idols and pandals were installed.
A sanctioned load of 60,217 kW was provided in these areas, involving an estimated expenditure of ₹9.04 crore. The State government extended the free supply despite a significant rise in energy demand attributed by officials to the El Niño phenomenon. The support was intended to facilitate the public celebrations, the officials said.
TGSPDCL reported an increase in the scale of the arrangements compared with 2025–26. The number of pandals rose from 47,649 to 51,207, while the sanctioned electrical load increased from 98,627 kW to 1,12,586 kW. Electricity expenditure also rose from ₹15.59 crore in the previous year to about ₹17.8 crore this year.
The figures were released by the discom while detailing the extent of free power supplied for the festivities.
