Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in Mysuru has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence for Immersive Technologies with BodyClone Technologies. The centre is intended to connect students, faculty, researchers and industry through projects, internships and research involving augmented and virtual reality applications.

Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in Mysuru has launched a Centre of Excellence for Immersive Technologies in association with BodyClone Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The centre was inaugurated on Thursday by Lt.

Col. Ajit Kumar, a senior practice lead at Infosys BPM’s Mysuru unit. Representatives of Vidyavardyaka Sangha, VVCE, BodyClone, faculty members and students attended the event.

Speaking at the inauguration, Kumar highlighted possible applications of augmented reality and virtual reality in military training. He said the technologies could make training more realistic and immersive, improve situational awareness and support equipment instruction. Kumar also said simulated environments could reduce some risks and costs associated with conventional training.

They allow trainees to practise repeatedly, assess performance and receive timely feedback, he said, while stressing that the value of the technologies depends on their integration with trained personnel, established procedures and practical operational experience. According to a press release, the centre is intended to create an ecosystem involving academia, industry, students, researchers and innovators. It will support industry-oriented projects, internships, research and the development of solutions to real-world challenges.

The initiative is also expected to give students and faculty more opportunities for practical work with emerging technologies, moving beyond theoretical instruction. The college’s Department of Computer Science and Engineering is leading the initiative with BodyClone. The inauguration brought together VVCE principal B.

Sadashive Gowda, department head Pooja M.R., BodyClone chief executive and technical head Sampath Kumar, and other institutional representatives. The centre’s stated focus is the development and application of immersive technologies through collaboration between educational and industry partners.
