Promoter Frank Warren says Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will receive the largest purses of their careers when they meet at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11. The bout, backed by Netflix and Turki Alalshikh, follows years of failed negotiations over its venue, financing and promotion.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are expected to earn the biggest purses of their careers when they meet at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on December 11, promoter Frank Warren has said. The fight is backed by Netflix and Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh. Warren told SunSport that the financial rewards had helped prevent another collapse after years of failed negotiations and false starts.

He said disputes over the venue and the involvement of UFC president Dana White had threatened the contest as recently as this year. Netflix had initially favoured Madison Square Garden in New York, but Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, cited a contract requiring the fight to take place in the United Kingdom without White’s involvement. Warren later helped secure the 70,000-seat Principality Stadium.

A ring-walk time between 1am and 2am is reportedly being discussed to accommodate a United States prime-time audience. Warren said the investors providing the funding deserved to receive value from the event. The promoter, who has long worked with Fury, predicted that his fighter would win by knockout.

He argued that Fury had aged better than Joshua, citing the champion’s durability and finishing ability. The December bout follows other scheduled fights involving Ben Whittaker, Daniel Dubois, Fabio Wardley, Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbili.
