2Baba’s mother says reports about singer have been untrue

Rose Idibia, the mother of singer Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, has said many reports and online claims about her son are untrue. Speaking to Vanguard in an interview published on Sunday, she said the singer had endured attacks and allegations since his separation from Annie Macaulay and his later relationship with Natasha Osawaru. She said his awareness of the truth helped him withstand the criticism.

Mrs Idibia said she knew what her son could and could not do and believed he had continued moving forward despite the controversy. She described him as loved by the public and said fans often surrounded him at events seeking photographs and physical contact. She also said 2Baba had achieved his main ambition of establishing himself in music.

In her view, his career had made him a Nigerian music legend, regardless of the criticism directed at him. Mrs Idibia recalled that the family initially imagined careers in law, medicine or engineering for him. However, she said his dedication and potential in music eventually convinced them to support his choice.

She said parents should encourage children to pursue their interests rather than force them into other professions. Listening to her son’s songs, she added, continued to remind her of his talent. The singer began his career in 1996, according to Premium Times, composing and singing jingles at the Enugu State Broadcasting Services.

He later moved to Lagos and formed Plantashun Boiz with Blackface and Faze before beginning his solo career after the group broke up in 2004.
