Andhra Pradesh launches construction of first three lakh homes under PMAY-G

Andhra Pradesh has begun work on three lakh rural homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, with Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan saying another six lakh would be sanctioned. A pilot project will also build 177 homes with 3D-printed concrete walls near Tenali.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan have launched construction of three lakh houses under the rural housing programme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin 2.0. The foundation ceremony took place at Burripalem near Tenali on Sunday. Chouhan said the Union government would sanction another six lakh houses for the state, while Naidu said the additional allocation would bring Andhra Pradesh’s total to nine lakh homes.
Naidu said the state aimed to achieve full coverage under the housing programme by 2029. He said the Centre had initially sanctioned 75,000 homes under the regular quota but approved three lakh after a special request from the state government. The two leaders also launched a pilot project involving 177 rural homes at Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem.
The houses will use 3D concrete-printing technology, in an initiative described in the source material as the first of its kind in the country. Naidu said the technology could help produce homes with indoor temperatures around eight degrees Celsius lower than outside temperatures. If the pilot succeeds, the government plans to build 5,000 homes using the method and promote Andhra Pradesh as a model for technology-based housing.
Naidu accused the previous YSR Congress Party government of cancelling six lakh homes intended for poor families between 2019 and 2024. He also alleged that unsuitable sites, including tanks and hillocks, had been allotted, leading nearly four lakh beneficiaries to return them. Chouhan similarly accused the former government of failing to pay its share, but the source provides no response from that administration.
Chouhan said the Centre would support Andhra Pradesh’s development and rural infrastructure. He referred to projects involving roads, drains and drinking-water facilities, while Naidu said the coalition government was focused on expanding welfare and housing access.
