The All Progressives Congress says it will hold a rally in Lafia as part of a new regional campaign to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. The initiative will also include medical outreach, reconciliation efforts and town hall meetings across the North-Central zone.

The All Progressives Congress has announced a rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, next Saturday as part of a regional drive to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima before the 2027 general elections. The event is being organised by the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima, a platform covering Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger and Plateau states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory. Dele Alake, spokesperson for the APC Presidential Campaign Council, announced the rally after the movement’s inaugural meeting in Abuja.

The meeting was held at the office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and attended by political leaders and government officials from the region. Akume said the North-Central’s objective was to deliver the highest regional vote total for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Sonny Echono, the movement’s national coordinator and a former executive secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, said the focus had shifted from whether Tinubu would win the region to the scale of the vote it could deliver.

Nasarawa Governor Abdullahi Sule described the initiative as timely and said the political difficulties facing the APC in the region were gradually receding. He expressed confidence that the North-Central would provide the highest number of votes for Tinubu and other APC candidates. The movement also resolved to organise medical outreach programmes, establish a reconciliation committee and hold town hall meetings.

The committee is expected to address disagreements among party members and stakeholders. Information Minister Mohammed Idris will work with state information commissioners and APC publicity structures to promote the initiative, with support from state governors. The Lafia rally will be the first major public event announced under the new regional platform.
