Benue NDC condemns killing of Fiidi ward chairman

The Nigeria Democratic Congress in Benue State has condemned the killing of its Fiidi Ward Council Chairman in Makurdi Local Government Area, Igbu Terhemen. The party said Terhemen was attacked by suspected hoodlums near the NNPC depot along the Makurdi-Otukpo Road. According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the state publicity secretary, Agile Bem, the attackers allegedly tied him with ropes and injected him with substances suspected to be poisonous.

Bem said Terhemen was later found close to his residence in an almost unconscious state. He was reportedly unable to speak or communicate before he died. The state chairman of the party, Ohini Ojegbe, condemned the killing, describing it as a “broad-daylight evil,” according to the statement.

The party called on security agencies to urgently investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. It also urged them to identify and arrest those responsible and ensure that they are brought to justice. The NDC described Terhemen as a committed and dedicated member whose contributions to the party’s growth would be missed.

It said his death came at a time when his service and commitment were needed. The party extended its condolences to Terhemen’s immediate family, the Fiidi community and the wider NDC family. It also prayed for those affected by the death to receive strength to cope with the loss.
