Zazzau Emir urges greater efficiency in Nigeria’s Hajj administration
Emir of Zazzau Ahmed Bamalli has pledged traditional institutions’ support for Nigeria’s Hajj commission and called for improved planning, transparency and communication. The Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has pledged the support of traditional institutions to Nigeria’s National Hajj Commission and urged continued improvements in the organisation of pilgrimage operations. Bamalli made the remarks on Wednesday during a visit to NAHCON Chairman Ismail Abba Yusuf at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. According to a statement by NAHCON’s Head of Information and Publications, Shafi Mohammed, the emir said the scale of the operation required dedication, transparency and strategic planning.
The emir said the Zazzau Emirate and traditional institutions more broadly remained important stakeholders in mobilising and sensitising intending pilgrims. He urged NAHCON to maintain its focus on structural efficiency, early preparations and clear communication in order to address recurring operational problems. Bamalli also said the comfort, safety and wellbeing of pilgrims should remain central to the administration of Hajj.
He offered the commission the prayers, counsel and support of the traditional institution. Yusuf thanked the emir for the visit, describing it as a morale boost for NAHCON’s management and staff. The commission said its chairman briefed Bamalli on policy frameworks, digital innovations and strategic partnerships intended to reduce costs and improve accommodation, feeding and airlift arrangements.
NAHCON said it would consider the emir’s recommendations and remained committed to delivering what it described as a world-class Hajj experience for the Nigerian government and the Muslim community. Nigeria has been allocated 50,000 places for the 2027 Hajj. Of those, 35,000 are designated for government-sponsored pilgrims and 15,000 for licensed tour operators.
NAHCON said it completed the uploading of intending pilgrims’ biometric data to the Nusuk-Masar platform on September 26, in line with requirements from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. States are expected to complete payment of the 2027 Hajj fares by December 2, 2026.
