Federal Technical College in Enugu begins academic activities

Academic activities have commenced at the newly established Federal Technical College, Eke, in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, the institution’s principal, Gideon Angbeye, has announced. Angbeye made the announcement on Monday while addressing prospective pioneer students and their parents at the college’s supplementary examination centre. He described the institution as a Federal Government initiative intended to help address Nigeria’s shortage of technical skills.

According to the principal, the government has made comprehensive provisions for the first intake to receive technical education without charge. The package includes payment of tuition fees, provision of uniforms and daily meals for the students. Angbeye said the Ministry of Education, led by Minister Maruf Alausa, would ensure that free and quality meals were available throughout the students’ period of study.

The initiative is linked by the government to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative. He outlined a three-stage curriculum designed to emphasise practical competence. TVET 1 will introduce foundational theory and technical principles, while TVET 2 will involve full-time practical work and workshop immersion.

TVET 3 will combine advanced practical application with academic theory. The college is also establishing partnerships with industrial research institutions, including the Projects Development Institute and the Scientific Equipment Development Institute, as well as other corporate service providers. Angbeye said these relationships would support the delivery of what he described as world-class training.

He urged the pioneer students to take advantage of the opportunity and use their training to contribute to national development. He also thanked the Eke host community for its cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Education during the college’s operational take-off.
