Hong Kong outages disrupt power supplies to 1,000 Ho Man Tin households

Two equipment failures in Hong Kong’s Ho Man Tin district disrupted electricity supplies overnight and again during the morning, affecting a hotel and about 1,000 households. CLP Power said emergency repairs and temporary generators restored service progressively.
Two power outages in Hong Kong’s Ho Man Tin district disrupted electricity supplies to about 1,000 households and affected a hotel, CLP Power said. The first failure occurred near Waterloo Road at 11.18pm on Wednesday, according to the electricity provider, which supplies Kowloon and the New Territories. Emergency repairs and mobile generators allowed power to resume at 3.47am on Thursday.
The temporary supply became unstable during the morning as residents increased their electricity use. CLP said about 650 customers were affected again before emergency work restored supplies progressively by 8am. The company said its community support team and customer service managers coordinated with the Home Affairs Department’s district office, councillors and property managers.
Batteries and emergency lighting were provided to affected buildings. Police received four reports of outages from residents on Waterloo Road and Argyle Street between 11.36pm and 1am. The Fire Services Department received three reports of people trapped in lifts at buildings in the area.
Metropark Hotel Kowloon was also affected. Staff used torches and guests gathered in the lobby, while one tourist said his room had no air conditioning. An elderly man using an oxygen tube was taken away by ambulance from a building on Waterloo Road.
Some residents reported difficulties returning home during the disruption.
