India’s men’s and women’s squash teams secured bronze medals at the Asian Games after losing their semifinals 1-2. Malaysia defeated the defending men’s champions, while Hong Kong ended the women’s campaign after a dramatic opening match and a deciding victory over Joshana Chinappa.

India’s men’s and women’s squash teams finished with bronze medals at the Asian Games in Nagoya after both sides lost their semifinals 1-2 on Thursday. The defending men’s champions were beaten by Malaysia, ending their hopes of a final against Pakistan. Abhay Singh lost the opening match to Eain Yow Ng 11-8, 11-8, 11-8 in 22 minutes.

Ng had also defeated Singh in the singles final earlier in the Games. Veer Chotrani restored India’s hopes by beating Sanjay Jeeva 11-4, 11-8, 11-5 in 11 minutes. The tie was decided by Velavan Senthilkumar and Ameeshenraj Chandaran.

Senthilkumar won the first game 12-10, but Chandaran recovered to win the next three 11-6, 11-8, 11-9. Malaysia therefore took the tie 2-1. India’s women faced Hong Kong in a contest that also went to the deciding match.

Anahat Singh won the first two games against Sin Yuk Chan and led 10-6 in the fourth, but could not convert four match points. Sin eventually won 9-11, 8-11, 11-6, 13-11, 12-10. Tanvi Khanna kept India in contention with a recovery against Ka Yi Lee.

After losing the opening game, Khanna won 4-11, 13-11, 11-9, 13-11 to level the tie. Joshana Chinappa could not complete the comeback against Ho Tze Lok, losing 11-4, 11-7, 11-9 in 21 minutes. Both Indian teams consequently ended their campaigns with bronze.
