India added five athletics medals at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Sunday but remained without a gold in the discipline. The haul comprised two silver and three bronze medals, taking India’s athletics total to 13, including six silver and seven bronze. Ancy Sojan won silver in the women’s long jump after China’s Huang Yingying produced a 6.55-metre effort in her fifth attempt.
Ancy had led for much of the contest with a best jump of 6.53m but could not improve on her final attempt. Shaili Singh, who had been in the bronze position before the final round, finished fourth after China’s Tan Mengyi jumped 6.46m. Shaili’s last effort measured 6.42m.
Tejaswin Shankar claimed bronze in the decathlon with 7,934 points. He won the 1,500m, the final event, in 4:33.09. The medal was his second successive Asian Games medal in the event after his silver at the 2022 Games.
