Indian archers complete compound gold-medal sweep at Asian Games

India won all three compound archery gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games on Wednesday, completing a sweep that followed months of preparation in varied weather and competition conditions. Sahil Rajesh Jadhav won two titles. He partnered Chikitha Taniparthi to win the mixed team event, then joined Kushal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru in the men’s team competition.

India’s men defeated China 238-237 in a close final. Earlier, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep beat China 238-234 in the women’s team final. Their score equalled the world record, according to the supplied report.

The coaching staff prepared the archers for different environments at the Sports Authority of India’s National Centres of Excellence in Kolkata and Sonipat. Training included cold and rain in Shillaru, Himachal Pradesh, extreme heat in Sonipat and strong winds in Kurobe City, Japan, where the team arrived about 10 to 15 days before the Games. Sahil’s coach, Haresh Kumar, told SAI Media that the preparation was designed to help the archers cope with changing weather.

The team also used match simulations at SAI Sonipat to recreate pressure situations and practise tactics for decisive contests. That preparation was tested in the mixed team final, where Sahil and Chikitha defeated South Korea in a shoot-off. Sahil, 25, said the two gold medals made him happy and proud, but added that he believed there was more to achieve.

The victory also earned Sahil an Olympic quota for India in the mixed compound event at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. He said he had been confident in his ability to win after working hard over several months. Haresh said Sahil had executed the tactics developed in training and praised his performance.
